Sunny Boy and Sunny Mini Central:
On the AC side, SMA inverters fulfill overvoltage category 3, which corresponds to a voltage endurance of protection class III (4 kV voltage pulse). Additionally, on the input side (DC), the devices have device surge protection with thermally monitored varistors.
We would like to stress that these safety measures do not offer comprehensive lightning or overvoltage protection.
For buildings in public places that require lightning protection and OVP, this must be performed separately by external lightning and overvoltage components. For privately-owned buildings, the decision is to be made individually in consultation with an electrically qualified person.
Sunny Tripower:
Inverters in the Sunny Tripower range are excluded. These can optionally be equipped with type 2 surge arresters, meaning these arresters do not have to be installed separately.
