Event numbers 82, 8201, 8202 and 8203 indicate a reverse current in the PV array or a device disturbance.
The error can appear sporadically or continuously, depending on the cause.
Error 82 / 8201 / 8202 or 8203 “Device disturbance” and “Do not disconnect ESS / Attach ESS, do not open cover” is displayed, the red LED lights up and the Sunny Tripower beeps. The device short-circuits the affected input to prevent dangerous reverse currents into the damaged module string. The Sunny Tripower can continue to feed in power with the non-affected input.
Possible causes for reverse currents to the PV array are:
- Asymmetrical strings at input A or swapped connections of the strings from input A and B
- Module defects
- Reverse polarity
- In rare cases: Shading
Corrective measures:
If you are the system operator, please contact your installer.
| DANGER! If the Sunny Tripower is beeping: Do not, under any circumstances, disconnect the Electronic Solar Switch (ESS handle) or the DC connector during daylight. |
| DANGER! The tasks described below may only be performed by Electrically Qualified Persons: |
Inspection of the DC installation:
- Disconnect Sunny Tripower (see installation or service manual )
- DANGER! If the STP beeps, wait until dark. The ESS can only be removed once it is dark. (Why? see article: Sunny Tripower is Beeping).
- Measure the open-circuit voltages of all strings when the irradiation is sufficient:
- Voltage string A1
- Voltage string A2
- Voltage string A3
- Voltage string A4
- Voltage string A5 (only STP 15 / 17000TL-10)
- Voltage string B
- Ensure that the voltage, polarity and “pair formation” is correct.
- Compare the measurement data with the information on the module data sheet (taking the irradiation values / weather into consideration)
- If possible, also measure the DC current with a current clamp
If, however, the message keeps on appearing, even though the DC installation has been checked by a skilled person, please contact the SMA Service .
Please provide the following information:
- Device type and serial number of the inverter
- Event number
- How long has the error been present for now? Is it sporadic or continuous?
- Measured open-circuit voltages of all strings:
- Voltage string A1
- Voltage string A2
- Voltage string A3
- Voltage string A4
- Voltage string A5 (only STP 15 / 17000TL-10)
- Voltage string B
Should the error occur again on the exchange inverter, a further inspection of the DC installation is necessary. Please contact the SMA Service Line to coordinate the further activities.
