Safety Information

To prevent personal injury and property damage and to ensure long-term operation of the product, read the Safety Information carefully and observe all safety information at all times.
Observe the Safety Information at all times when working on or with the product.

Option 1: Restart over Night

The tasks described below may only be performed by Electrically Qualified Persons:

A restart of the inverter can be performed by switching off the inverter’s circuit breaker overnight and switching it back on again the next morning.

This means that the inverter is disconnected on the DC side (because no PV is generated at night) as well as from the AC overnight, and the required waiting time to discharge the capacitors is complied with.
The circuit breaker is not located in the inverter itself, but in the AC sub-distribution.

Option 2: Restart by Disconnecting the Inverter from Voltage Sources

Warning! The tasks described below may only be performed by Electrically Qualified Persons:

A detailed description of the procedure, as well as the warnings that are essential to bear in mind, can be found in the manual of the inverter type

. Follow all safety precautions listed there at all times.

However, based on past experience, we wish to state here that the inverter is not disconnected (and a restart is not completely successful) until:
the circuit breaker is switched off
the DC load-break is set to position O,or (depending on the inverter type)
the ESS handle* is pulled off

and all DC connectors are unlocked and removed
Pictures are example from: Quick Reference Guide STP20-25TL-30-IS-xx-13
The inverter then needs 5 / 20 / 30 minutes (depending on device type, see manual ) until all capacitors have been discharged.

NOTICE!
Damage to the inverter as a result of electrostatic discharge! Ground yourself before touching a component.

* Some older Sunny Boy inverters (mostly produced before 2006) are not equipped with an ESS handle nor a DC load break. For safe disconnection, follow the according manual.
