Grounding measures in PV plants
In principle, PV rooftop systems do not need to be grounded, according to the DIN VDE 0100-410 standard (as pertains to grounding of the substructure).
However, the International Electrotechnical Commission in the IEC 61730 notes that the module frame of a PV module is an auxiliary mounting structure. In this case, the module frame and the substructure can be readily grounded if needed.
Depending on the plant constellation, equipotential bonding or measures for lightning protection may be necessary. Planning and setup of grounding or lightning protection measures are the responsibility of the electrically qualified person and must be executed individually for every PV plant.
