Due to the heavily reduced Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) feed-in tariff in Germany, it no longer makes sense in many cases to make full use of a single-family home’s roof surface. Instead, the energy quantity generated each year, and hence the system power, should be adapted to the annual power consumption and the electrical storage capacity.
This is exactly what SMA has done with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy: With the combination of PV power and battery capacity, it is the most efficient solution for typical households with a power consumption of between 2,500 and 7,000 kWh (given a PV power of 3.5 to 6.5 kWp).
