Recommendations on planning a PV plant

Three points are crucial when planning PV plants:

Firstly, you must ensure that the selected PV modules can also be operated with the selected inverter and inverter topology. Please request the relevant information from the module manufacturer.

The second point concerns the design in terms of the PV array voltage. It must be ensured that the PV array voltage at a module temperature of -10°C does not exceed the maximum input voltage of the inverter. In the event of low temperatures, this would lead to the destruction of the inverter.

Additionally, in the event of a module temperature of 70°C, the PV array voltage must not be so low that the inverter can no longer feed in. In this event, there is the threat of a loss of yield.

The third point concerns the location of the PV modules. Take account of the following:

  • The location in which the plant is to be set up
  • The alignment of the PV modules (direction)
  • The incline at which the PV modules are to be installed
  • Potential sources of shade (chimneys, neighboring houses, antenna systems, etc.)

The plant design can be very complex, which is why you should consult an expert for advice on how to achieve the best design. He/she can assess different options and can take account of possible interfering factors.
